When I see a dropship, first of all, I know it is my primary target to take down since it will cause hell on my team otherwise.
Usually I'm with the rest of my corp covering my tail while I take aim for the dropship, its recommended because most of the time the Enemy soldiers will hear your charge shots going off of your forge gun. Always get a good vantage point and one with good cover. Standing up high might be good but if you have no cover, then you best back off and look for it. Splash damage hits usually takes about 3-5 hits, dependent if the vehicle has damage mods or not of course. If you take a Direct Hit, as rare as it is, its a OHK so you will be needing that cover if the gunners spot you. They will be looking for you once they spot you taking aim at their dropship.
And as far as Forge Guns to use best, I suggest an Assault Class or the Command level Gastun. Using a Breach might be good but you'll be hindered with movement so its best off if you use an Assault Class Forge Gun. Getting that DPS down on any Vehicle is vital to success and if you're new to dropping down dropships or any vehicle with a forge gun with high HP or ones you cant take out in a OHK with the breach. Its recommended you start with the Assault class because you'll have 2 shots in the one you'll have compared to the Breach Forge Gun. If you are skilled, then go Breach because you know better and know how to aim. And in terms of balance, you can use the Assault because you can use it as an Infantry Fighting Weapon as well due to its splash radius compared to the Breach.
Getting the timing down is top priority. Depending on how fast the ship is going, you need to adjust your aim accordingly relative to that speed. The reason of this is because the Forge Guns Railgun Round takes some time to reach the 300m Maximum range (That be the range without any Sharp Shooter skills). It takes about .7s to reach the 300m mark that it can reach. Make sure you're within that range of any Dropship or vehicle or else you won't hit anything even though it may seem like it hit. As far as ACTUAL timing, that you'll have to figure out on your own. Its impossible to explain in words without actually showing you how its done, so train up on that on your own and get the experience down so you can be the one that shoots down that one jerk in their so called 'almighty' ship! |
